Naringin, also known as citrus glycoside, or isohesperidin, is a secondary metabolite of plants and a natural flavonoid compound mainly found in the peel of citrus fruits. It is also the main active ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine such as tangerine peel, bone fragment supplement, and tangerine peel.
Biological functions:
Antioxidant: Naringin protects cells from damage by clearing free radicals in the body, reducing oxidative stress. Research has shown that its antioxidant activity is high, which helps prevent chronic diseases.
Lowering blood lipids: Naringin can help reduce low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels, thereby improving blood lipid status and preventing cardiovascular disease.
Anti inflammatory: Naringin can inhibit inflammatory reactions and reduce tissue damage caused by inflammation. Its mechanism of action includes inhibiting the generation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Anti cancer: some studies have found that naringin may have the effect of inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells and inducing apoptosis of cancer cells, and has certain preventive effects on some types of cancer, such as breast cancer, colon cancer, etc.
Naringin has various beneficial biological functions mentioned above, as well as non-toxic (low toxicity), green and environmentally friendly characteristics, making it suitable for use as a feed additive or animal health drug in animal husbandry production.
1. Regulating fat metabolism, in some monogastric animal experiments, supplementing naringin can significantly affect the fat metabolism of livestock and poultry, manifested as reducing lipid synthesis in animal blood, fat, liver and other tissues, and promoting fat breakdown. The regulatory effect of naringin on fat metabolism in ruminants is relatively weak, and it is currently unclear what causes these differences. It is speculated that these differences may be related to physiological structural differences in animals, naringin addition levels, and supplementation methods. Naringin has a certain degree of regulatory effect on animal fat metabolism and adipocyte growth, but its effects vary in different animals. The specific molecular mechanism by which naringin regulates fat metabolism is not fully understood and requires further analysis.
2. Improving meat quality by adding naringin to livestock and poultry feed can enhance the antioxidant capacity of meat products, prolong their storage period, and improve their color. In addition, naringin can also improve meat color to a certain extent, making animal meat more popular among consumers.
3. Improving the body's immunity, naringin can inhibit oxidative stress damage to internal organs, thereby enhancing the body's immunity and strengthening its resistance to diseases. In recent years, some studies have shown that naringin can enhance the immune response of livestock and poultry under heat stress environment and reduce heat stress response.
Naringin is a natural plant extract with broad application prospects in animal husbandry production as a new green additive.
