Kesume,Open up new possibilities for improving cognition
Kesum is a plant of the family Aphididae.Named Polygonum Iminus or Persicariaminor, it is a famous botanical herb in Malaysia. The locals use it as a cooking spice and sometimes as a green vegetable salad.
Scientific research conducted by kesum shows that the herb has the ability to protect living cells from oxidative stress damage. The results show that this extract can effectively protect living cells from chemically induced oxidative stress in vivo. The ability of this active compound to penetrate living cells further enhances the antioxidant effects of the herb. It also inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase.Acetylcholinesterase is able to metabolize acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter associated with learning and memory in the brain.Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase is currently the most accepted and accepted therapeutic marker for the development of memory-improving drugs. Herbaceous plants with acetylcholinesterase inhibitory activity will improve cognition,Further improve memory and open up new...

Clinical studies have confirmed improved memory.
In 2017, Suzana Shahar, a professor at the National University of Malaysia, conducted a clinical trial involving middle-aged people. They were randomly divided into two groups, one taking kesum extract daily and the other taking placebo. The choices of these subjects are based on the high levels of stress inherent in the work, which require them to undertake multiple tasks at the same time. Multitasking usually results in one or more forgetting.
At the beginning of the study, subjects received a series of psychological and intellectual tests after the third and sixth weeks, respectively, and found that the group that consumed the kesum extract was overall emotional and sedative (Figure 1), short-term memory and IQ scores are higher. The study also found that several parameters of cognitive function have improved (Figure 2).
